Until well into the 20th century the counties on the Delmarva Peninsula had alms houses or poor houses. This is the postcard of the Kent County Delaware Alms House in Wyoming
The Alm’s House is no longer there. The house pictured is the house that I grew up in and the house my mother still lives in. There is a cemetary connected with it. It is located in a wooded area on the the property adjacent to it. The head stones have fallen down and the graves are sunken in.
Don, I’m not that familiar with the area, but I see on Google maps there is an amshouse road in that general area. You might check with the Delaware Archives. They have information on the old Delaware Alms Houses.
Mike, I talked to my mom last night. She said the house in the back of the picture is the Alm’s House. All that I can recall is looking into the house one time. Sorry that I can’t tell you more. Thanks for the link to above.
Is this almshouse still standing today and is there a cemetery connected with it? Is there burial records with this cemetery

The Alm’s house was still standing when I was a child.
Lance thanks for sharing that info.

Lane, do you have any other recollections of the house. Thanks?
Mike
